Man sleeping under car in front of NYC cemetery, fatally run over

A man sleeping under a parked pickup truck outside a Queens cemetery was killed when the vehicle’s owner was returning – and unknowingly ran him over, cops said.

The unidentified victim, described as in his 30s, was dozing under the unoccupied Ford F350 at Maurice Avenue and 53rd Drive — just outside Mount Zion Cemetery in Maspeth — before 7 p.m. Tuesday when the motorist returned.

The driver, a 42-year-old man, was beginning to pull out his truck to head south on Maurice Avenue when he felt a large bump, authorities said.

As he got out of the truck, he realized he had run over the victim, police said.

EMS responded and took the man, found under the truck, to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead about half an hour after the accident.

The driver stayed at the scene, police said.
