Man shot by suspect while trying to carjack Dreyfus, suspect steals Toyota Sonoma 1 hour later on Tierwester

Officers received a call about a 12:50 a.m. shooting at the first crime scene in the 3700 block of Dreyfus.

The man said he was in his driveway when the suspect, described by police as a black man wearing a red hoodie, approached him and said he would take his car. The man then ran into his home and caught his nephew, who is an undercover gun owner.

The suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the vehicle’s owner and left without taking anything, according to Lt. Izaguirre by HPD.

Police say a second robbery took place within an hour, in which a person matching the description of the first scene took a Toyota Sonoma near the Tierwester area.

Robbery investigators arrived at the scene in Dreyfus and determined the shooting was connected to the robbery.

The man who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital.
