PEP GUARDIOLA has hinted he has ruled out Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and John Stones in Manchester City’s win over Newcastle for disciplinary reasons.
The trio are all named on the bench as the champions defeated the side of Eddie Howe at St James’ Park yesterday.
Goals from Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling helped Man City stay three points ahead of Liverpool at the top of the table.
And only Stones was brought on from the bench to play any role in the game Man City’s winning record.
But speaking to 5Live after the game, Guardiola revealed that he is not leaving his English trio for the sake of rotation.
In addition, he had ‘attention’ that ‘off-the-field behavior’ was ‘inappropriate’, City Coach Guardiola explained: “Not rotation, no.
“I decided for this team because they deserved to play today, these guys and not others.
“At Christmas time, I pay close attention to behavior on and off the pitch. And when the pitch is not suitable, they will not play.
“So we have to focus all the time because of the distractions at Christmas time and everything that happens – you still have to be focused.”
Guardiola’s ruthless decision came as Grealish declares her ambition to win a Treble this semester.
“We have a lot of talent here and a lot of good players. I really think we can go through in a couple of tournaments this year.
“That’s what I came here, to win titles, so hopefully at the end of the season I’ll have a few medals on my neck.”
Reflecting on his own struggles since his £100m move in the summer from Aston Villa, Grealish added: “I’ve really struggled with my goals and assists.

“Especially the price to pay in my head, as soon as you don’t get those goals and assists for a while, people start talking and doubting you.
“That’s what I’ve been feeling lately but those two are the things I’m trying to work on the most.
“That’s where you need to believe in my own abilities and take it from there.”
