Ludwig lets YouTube viewers name his new cat and immediately regrets it

YouTube streamer Ludwig Ahgren made a rookie mistake by allowing viewers in chat to throw him potential names for his brand new kitty, with “Cracker” as the name of choice winning a stream match.

Naming something can be a promising affair, nominative determinism That being said, finding the perfect title for a pet must serve the dual purpose of having fun and doing justice to the animal’s personality. Ludwig skipped the hard courts for a (frankly adorable) new cat, throwing name calls to his chat during a May 16 stream.

When they quickly encountered the well-documented problem of making the Internet call arbitrary names, a set of inappropriate names immediately dominated the decision-making process. Ludwig searched them, picked out all the potential names and threw them into a game of marbles.

With named marbles racing to the bottom on a number of tracks, this was a fair, unbiased way for a name to come out on top. However, when “Cracker” won the tournament, Ludwig visibly regretted his decision to put the power of the name in the hands of the Internet.

The adorable cat at the center of the messy naming.

With the “cracker” controversy dominating conversations on Twitch less than 6 months ago, when Hasan, Bruce Ray and Froste were all hit with bans for using a “racially charged” term, the name wasn’t an ideal choice for the streamers .

Although the name Cracker won the marbles tournament, Ludwig tried to avoid the name by running a poll between “Coots” and Cracker as the name choice for the fresh cat. Coots won the poll with 54% of the vote versus Crackers with 46%.

In response to calls from chat saying this was a scam and supporting the name Cracker after his Marbles win, Ahgren opened a Microsoft Paint window and drew three names for the cat to choose for himself. With “Cracker,” “Marbles,” and “Coots” on the screen, the cat immediately started touching crackers.

The cat’s devotion to the controversial name prompted Ludwig to declare, “This cat is a problem. For me, for society.”

Ludwig threw out a reference to Twitch’s strict bans on using the term and called his partner and Twitch streamer QTCinderella before lamenting, “How do I break the news to QT? She’s a Twitch streamer.”

Speaking to QT, where she flatly dismissed the name, Ludwig asked, “Is it because it’s problematic?” to get QT’s terse reply, “No, it’s because it’s a stupid name.”

Unable to find an answer to his nomenclature problem, the streamer ended his live stream with a full screen of the unnamed cat taking a nap and saying goodbye with, “Say goodbye to Marbles, or Coots, or Crackers.”
