LEAP Aid Program Still Accepting Applications

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – Between the recent increase in heating fuel costs and below-freezing temperatures, participation is expected to grow based on demand. Financial assistance starts at $250 per year, but can go up to a thousand dollars for late payers.
LEAP program coordinators encourage all who need help to check their eligibility.
“It’s a number of factors including income, number of family members, but it just boils down to, if you’re at 60% or below the state median income, you’re most likely enough. eligibility for LEAP,” explains Christopher Stone, Mesa County LEAP Representative.
Stone says LEAP can help you if you’re late on your water and heat payments. New federal funds included this year as a collection program for late payers.
The payment will be sent directly to the supplier and will show up as a credit on the applicant’s heat bill. LEAP benefits are the same regardless of when the application is processed.
Applications are available online, by phone at 1-866-HEAT-HELP (1-866-432-8435, and Paper applications can be obtained at the Mesa . County Department of Human Services, 510 29 ½ Road, Grand Junction.
