Currently, it is revealed that Lateche and her boyfriend, Joey Smith, are homeless and live in a makeshift house in Chula Vista. This is why neither of them can call home.

“We were at Chula Vista on the side of the highway, where there were absolutely no people and no resources,” says Lateche.

She added that living in that situation was “very difficult” as the two had to find a way to survive on a daily basis.

Walker became concerned after several comparisons from Lateche’s case to that of the late vlogger, Gabby Petito.

In a now-deleted Facebook post after Lateche was found, Walker wrote: “I feel compelled to say that Joey didn’t hurt her.

“And while we ask everyone to respect our privacy, this needs immediate confirmation because he has been compared to Brian Laundrie.”

Gabby’s case has country title over the summer and her mother, Nichole Schmidt, joined the search Lateche on social networks.

“I was never a danger or harm to Lateche,” Smith said. “I will always put her first and whatever she wants to do, whatever is best for us as a couple, I will.”

Smith said he went down to San Diego to enter a rehab facility called the Rehabilitation Farm but had to leave after suffering a seizure.

“He had seizures, this he had time for,” Lateche said.

The couple said they worked hard to get a free phone from Medi-Cal to contact Lateche’s mother.

“The moment that plan went into effect, we were in contact with Cheryl,” Smith said.

That’s how the three were able to reunite at the San Diego Library downtown.

“I am grateful to everyone who was happy that this did not end with a tragedy because you are the people that matter,” Walker said of the community that helped find Lateche.

“You are kind people and I thank you very much”

Lateche and her boyfriend plan to fly back to Indiana. Smith has been offered a constructive job and the two intend to make their relationship work.

“Obviously I want us to come out of this. I want us to learn from the mistakes we’ve made and that we continue to make and become the people we know we’re supposed to be,” Smith said.
