SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (WNCN) — The legend of Mike Krzyzewski continues after Duke University completed its comeback bid in the men’s NCAA tournament Sweet 16 on Thursday night. The Blue Devils beat Texas Tech University 78-73 in a back-and-forth to advance to the Elite 8.

Texas Tech made a statement early in the game and went 10-2 behind Bryson Williams.

But after Dukes Krzyzewski took a break, the Blue Devils continued their own 10-2 run and began a close back-and-forth.

The largest first-half lead then grew to seven points as Texas Tech reclaimed the lead 33-26 and eventually led 33-29 by four points at halftime.

The Red Raiders would hold the lead until 11:37 into the game when Paolo Banchero jumped and gave Duke a 49-47 lead.

But even after the TV break, the back and forth continued again, with the largest lead growing to four points one way or another in the next few minutes.

Banchero hit another crucial shot, dumping a 3-pointer from the top of the arc at 2:57 to play, putting Duke back in the lead, 69-68. Another TV timeout followed.

However, it was the Banchero shot before the time-out that was the final turning point in the game.

Bryson Williams missed a jumper after a block by Mark Willams, which led to a jumper by Jeremy Roach on the other end of the floor.

Roach made another jump for Duke after a Banchero steal to increase Duke’s lead to five points before Texas Tech’s Adonis Arms led to a three-point game with a dunk by 27.6 seconds.

After a time out by Red Raider, Wendell Moore Jr. was fouled and took both foul shots.

But a 3-pointer 13.1 seconds clear of an Arms right Hail Mary floater made it a one-ball game again.

AJ Griffin then made his two foul shots to play the Blue Devils on 12.9 to put a five lead. After the inbound, Arms missed a 3-pointer and Banchero was fouled to go on the line at 4.8 to play.

Fifth, Texas Tech ran out of time and Krzyzewski moves up into the elite eight again.

This is the first time Duke has won in the Pacific time zone. By Thursday it was 0-5 all time and had three losses of at least 14 points.
