On Monday, The Kardashians Star made her debut on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art with her boyfriend, comedian Pete Davidson.
For the occasion, the Skims founder chose a dazzling, sheer, floor-length beige gown previously worn by Monroe in 1962 to serenade President John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday.
According to Kardashian, she had the idea of trying on the dress, which she shared Fashion Livestream host La La Anthony came with “armed guards” but found the dress didn’t fit at first.
“So I looked at her and said, ‘Give me about three weeks,'” Kardashian recalled, before claiming she lost 16 pounds to fit in the dress. “It was such a challenge, it was like a role. I was determined, I was determined to pass.”
The reality star said her team had doubts before concluding, “And I made it.”
Corresponding FashionKardashian came up with the idea of wearing the dress to last year’s Met Gala after noting that Monroe was one of the “most American things.”[s] You can imagine”.
“The idea really came to me after the gala last September. I figured what would I have done with the American theme if it wasn’t the Balenciaga look? What’s the most American thing you can think of? And this is Marilyn Monroe,” she said. “For me, the Marilyn Monroe moment is when she sang Happy Birthday.”
While Kardashian wore the original dress while posing on the steps of the Met Gala, she later transformed herself into a replica of the dress, she said Fashion that she “never wants to sit in it or eat in it or risk damaging it” and didn’t wear the “kind of body makeup I usually wear.”
The outlet also reported that Kardashian spent 14 hours bleaching her hair ahead of tonight’s Met Gala.
When speaking to Fashion Kardashian also revealed on the red carpet that she plans to go blonde “for a while.” During the interview, Kardashian was then briefly joined by Davidson, who attempted to walk away before pushing him back.
After being praised by Anthony for his Met Gala look, the Saturday night live Comedian joked that Kardashian didn’t “allow” him his “propeller hat.”
