Kim Basinger got emotional when she opened up about her agoraphobia, opening up about how her phobia of leaving the house has caused her debilitating issues.
The 68-year-old opened up about her struggles with the disease on an upcoming episode of Red Table Talk, revealing she had forgotten how to drive a car.
Acquired in a clip from PeopleBasinger and her daughter, Ireland Baldwin, attended Jada Pinkett-Smith’s talk show, where the ‘9 1/2 Weeks’ star opened up about the many challenges she faced battling agoraphobia.
She said it was “really horrible” to suffer from the disease “as severely as I’ve had over these years and I don’t know what it was”.
“I wouldn’t leave the house. I wouldn’t go to dinner anymore,” Basinger said.
agoraphobia is classified as a type of anxiety disorder that causes extreme fear of certain situations, with many people even resisting leaving the house.
Basinger added that her agoraphobia felt “like something inside you completely shut down and you had to relearn everything.”
“I had to relearn how to drive and didn’t want to drive through the tunnels in Malibu for many years,” the LA Confidential actress explained. “Everything used to make me nervous, like the glass [sliding] to open the door, or ‘Where do I step to open the door?’ Everything became a big task to figure out how to do it.”
“You live with a dry mouth all the time, you’re very shaky, you’re just so exhausted all the time,” she continued.
Baldwin, 26, her became open about her own health issuesreveals she used to “self-treat with Xanax” and “drink to excess.”
The model also admitted that she hadn’t spoken to her mom or dad Alec Baldwin in “about a year” about her issues. “I saw them here and there, but I was so ashamed of what I had become and how I was living,” she said.
“I just became that different person,” she said. “I was emaciated in every way; I was lifeless.”
