(ViacomCBS) – VH1 introduced Christmas hip hop family airs Monday, December 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Christmas hip hop family stars Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo, Terrence J, Serayah, MC Lyte, Redman, etc. in a movie that tells the story of Hip-Hop’s most famous family after they agree to star in a TV show Live Christmas to deal with negativity and calm the image.
CBS‘Matt Weiss talked to Hilson about Christmas hip hop family and her own favorite Christmas movies.
MW- Hi Keri! Christmas hip hop family coming to VH1 on Monday, December 6 and with yourself we have the executive produced by Jamie Foxx and also starring Ne-Yo, Serayah and Terrence J. How much fun when working with this group?
KH- Very happy! First of all, we had the Christmas spirit ready and Terrence J would bring his boombox and set it aside so when they shouted he would play a Christmas song and he would really make them. I’m in the mood. But Terrence J and Ne-Yo are my friends so I have to work with my friends.
I also made new friends with MC Lyte and Redman, who played my mom and dad. The movie is very difficult, the days are tired, you have a lot of sleeplessness, especially when you are the main actor. But with a great cast like these, it really is the cherry on top… or should I say the star on the treetop.
MW- Very suitable for the season! We now know that there’s an easter egg to find with a boom box by Terrence J.
KH- You will never see it [laughs]. He did a great job of hiding it.
MW- Anyway, I will still try [laughs]. So tell us about your character…
KH- My character is Jessica Nixon. She’s a TV executive as she belts her family tight and makes a pretty good effort at trying to combat the rumors and negative press her family finds. ‘did not go as Nixon planned.
MW- Never, right?
KH- No, it never does [laughs].
MW- Hopefully your character in this movie will become part of everyone’s holiday tradition. I’m curious for you, what are some of your favorite Christmas movies looking back?
KH- Oh my God. Now wait because it’s not super Christmas but it gets me in the mood; Go to USA. I know it might sound weird, but every year I have to watch Go to USA around Christmas time. My other top picks are Home alone. I think those will be my two favorites, I can recount Home alone word for word.
MW- And now Christmas hip hop family hope will be Home alone As for the others, what do you hope people take away from this movie?
KH- You know, there’s a strong family bond that teaches us to be honest and protect our family and treat family members like a good friend. That for me is well deserved to be played and recognized even as myself, as Keri.
So this movie is about honoring your family, not living for the world or perception outside your door. Be respected within the walls of your home.
MW- We can all use reminders to remind us, especially at this time of year. Thank you very much for the time today Keri. Looking forward to the movie and Merry Christmas!
KH- Thank you very much!
