Kentucky officer killed, several others shot in response to domestic incident at home

At least one police officer died and several others were injured when a man barricaded himself inside his Kentucky home and opened fire on Thursday.
According to local news station WMDJ FM, around 5 p.m. sheriff deputies were attempting to issue an emergency shelter order that arose from a domestic dispute at a Floyd County home when the suspect immediately shot them from inside the home.
Two officers were hit at the time and the fire continued, LEX18 reported.
The ordeal quickly escalated into an active shooter and hostage situation as the male suspect barricaded himself inside the home with his wife and daughter and continued to fire bullets at responding officers.
Deputies called for assistance and several agencies responded, including state police, officers from neighboring counties and a SWAT team.
The standoff lasted nearly five hours and ended with the suspect being taken into police custody, WMDJ reported. His wife and daughter were unharmed.
Several officials from different agencies were shot dead and taken to nearby hospitals. According to local reports, a total of four to six officers were shot dead.
An officer, who has not been identified, was shot dead, Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt told LEX18.
In a statement posted to Facebook, the sheriff’s office described the incident as “fatal” but gave no further details about the death.
