Keanu Reeves has been a cinematic icon for nearly four decades. But even with the Wizard of Whoa! sometimes starred. Along the way, Reeves also revealed the time he asked a rock icon to write a message to his friend and choose a dark rock song he could listen to forever.

Things started off in the most Keanu way possible, with Reeves overthinking the question: “What’s the best sandwich?” “Best sandwich you’d say, like, for me?” he wondered, before finally landing on the sweet and savory combination of toast with crispy peanut butter and honey.

In the end, however, Reeves got to the most important question: has he ever asked for someone’s autograph? The answer is yes, but that’s for a friend. Keanu, who spent nearly a decade in the 1990s touring and recording with start-up band Dogstar, said he once asked punk godfather Lou Reed about his John Hancock, noting that the rocker was popular known as someone who is absolutely “great at it”.

“It’s like a little piece of paper and blue ink… yes, it’s very good,” said Reeves. “It just said,” Lou Reed. When Colbert notes that it would be really disappointing not to read Lou Reed, Reeves joked that it might say, “all my best” or “happy holidays”.

He also added that he asked the late comedian George Carlin for a car and that, in a similar way, the humorous man has made a career of analyzing the power of four-letter words. which was simply written, “Dear Keanu: F – k you.”

Shaking his head in mock pain, Reeves didn’t need to think long about which song to choose if he could only listen to one for the rest of his life. “I’m going to sing Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’,” he said of the legendary 1980 post-punk glum hit just a month after singer Ian Curtis committed suicide.

Along the way, we also learn that the self-described rat can’t think of anything it will throw out, that spiders are its scariest animals, and that it prefers apples to oranges. To the question that started it all, “What do you think happens when we die?”, Reeves last said “I know that those who love us will miss us.” And he stuck with that answer.
