Katy Perry needs ‘therapy’ after ‘Idol’ reports on ex-John Mayer

“War of the Roses,” as a matter of fact.

Katy Perry had a hilarious reaction to a top 11 contestant on American Idol during a song challenge.

The contestants took part in a “Judges’ Song Contest” in which each contestant chose one of three songs to perform without knowing which judge had chosen the song and had to guess who it was.

Noah Thompson was chosen to sing John Mayer’s 2009 hit Heartbreak Warfare. The 20-year-old contestant from Kentucky then surmised that Perry picked the song for him to host Ryan Seacrest. “I picked Katy,” Thompson said clearly unaware that Mayer and Perry were dating. “But to be honest, I don’t know. I chose Katy. That was my guess.”

Perry shook her head in disbelief and replied, “Noah…I have a feeling you might want to write me on Wikipedia,” the “Teenage Dream” singer said awkwardly.

“Then that’s a big no?” Thompson joked.

Perry hilariously yelled “I’m triggered!” before sliding off her chair onto the floor in embarrassment. “It’s a great song, you did a great job, but I can’t talk anymore,” laughed the 37-year-old singer.

When it was finally revealed that Luke Bryan had picked the song for Thompson, Perry asked, “Who’s going to pay for my extra therapy session?”

Perry and Mayer dated back and forth from 2012 to 2015 and even have one song together entitled “Who You Love”. She is now engaged and has daughter Daisy Dove with her longtime partner Orlando Bloom. The couple welcomed their baby girl in August 2020.
