Kanye West has reportedly pulled out of the Coachella festival just 11 days before the event was scheduled to begin.
The rapper was scheduled to perform on the closing night of the two-week festival, which runs April 15-17 and April 22-24 in California.
While the exact reasons for his cancellation weren’t disclosed, a source told the publication that the 44-year-old hadn’t rehearsed or prepared for his planned performance.
Sources have confirmed this diversity that West – who has legally changed his name to Ye – will no longer appear at the event.
He previously headlined the festival in 2011 and has not performed his own set since. However, the rapper made a surprise appearance during the sets of The Weeknd in 2015 and Kid Cudi in 2019.
The first two nights of Coachella will be helmed by Harry Styles and Billie Eilish.
Rumors had surfaced that Travis Scott would be joining West for his set. TMZhowever, have reported that Scott will not be appearing at Coachella either.
Scott has kept a low profile since the Astroworld tragedy in which 10 people died due to a crowd during his Houston performance in October.
The Independent has reached out to West and Scott representatives for comment.
News of the musician’s cancellation follows after West was barred from a scheduled performance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night (April 3).
A West representative confirmed reports that he was removed from the awards show because of his “worrying online behavior.”

The announcement came shortly after West used a racial slur against Trevor Noah in an Instagram post Daily show The host said the situation between the rapper, his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and their new boyfriend Pete Davidson was “scary to watch.”
The musician had his account suspended, with Meta, Instagram’s parent company, confirming to The Independent that they had deleted content from West’s account and temporarily blocked the account from posting, commenting and sending direct messages.
He has also repeatedly used Instagram to post outbursts against Davidson, who began dating Kardashian in October last year. He also threatened to cancel his Coachella set if fellow headliner Eilish didn’t apologize to Travis Scott for a perceived dig at the Astroworld tragedy.
A petition to Coachella to remove West from its 2022 lineup has garnered nearly 50,000 signatures at the time of writing.
