Director Todd Phillips is fooling around – again.

Phillips apparently confirmed a sequel to his blockbuster 2019 film Joker on Tuesday and posted a series of images to Instagram, including a red script cover titled Joker: Folie à Deux, along with a shot of the Oscar-winning one Franchise star Joaquin Phoenix smokes while reading the script. The screenplay cover lists the writers as Phillips and Scott Silver, both of whom wrote the first part.

The official Twitter account of Warner Bros also shared Philip’s note. The Post has reached out to the studio for further confirmation and comment.

Although no details about the sequel’s plot were revealed by Phillips, the film’s French subtitle generally means “madness for two” and can signify a shared delusion between two people. Some outlets have suggested that Harley Quinn, the Joker’s accomplice, may be a character previously played by Margot Robbie – opposite Jared Leto’s version of the Joker – in 2016’s Suicide Squad.

Phillips post didn’t include an estimated release date.

Fans reacted to the news with excitement — “Everyone keep calm it’s happening!!” replied one enthusiastic Instagram commenter — and fear, with a twitter reply that annoyed, “I speak for everyone that we don’t want a sequel.”

The possibility of a “Joker 2” was raised about a year ago when Phillips’ attorney, Warren Dern, revealed during an interview that one was in the works; However, the film was not confirmed by Warner Bros. at this time.

Phoenix, 47, won the 2020 Best Actor Oscar for his role as the demented DC supervillain in the critically acclaimed “seriously dark urban drama” about a cackling clown – aka Arthur Fleck – whose criminal exploits caused panic across Gotham City. The film also starred Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Shea Whigham and Douglas Hodge, among others.
