Johnny Depp reveals he’s never seen Pirates of the Caribbean

Johnny Depp revealed he has never met him Pirates of the Caribbean when he took the stand in his $50 million defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Heard is being sued by Depp for defamation for suggesting he abused her in a 2018 column. Though she didn’t give his name, his attorneys claim her allegations made it difficult for the actor to land film roles.

When asked how his hit film turned out during testimony at the Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia on Tuesday (April 19), the 58-year-old actor said he “didn’t see it.”

Depp first starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003.

The actor went on to reprise his role in sequels Dead Man’s Chest, At the end of the world, on strange tidesand Dead men don’t tell fairy tales.

The conversation about the films started when Depp was asked about his career and famous role.


“Animated characters can get away with things that we can’t,” he told the judges. “Captain Jack Sparrow can do things I could never do. He could say things I could never say. So for me it was an opportunity to expand a character’s parameters and take a risk in the process.

“But if it worked and I felt like I was on a pretty good mission, I thought it might be a character that would be accepted by five-year-olds and 45-year-olds, 65-year-olds and 85-year-olds on the same way as Bugs Bunny,” he continued.

Speaking of his first reaction to that Pirates of the Caribbean Speaking of the script, Depp said, “I thought it had all the hallmarks of a Disney film — that is, sort of a predictable three-act structure. The character of Captain Jack was more like a shirtless swashbuckler guy who would swing in and be the hero.

“I had very different ideas about the character, so I incorporated my notes [the] character and brought that character to life. Much to Disney’s dismay at first.”

That transcendence The actor then revealed to the jury that he had never seen his own film.

“I did not see it. But I think the film seemed to do pretty well, and they wanted to keep doing more, and I was fine with that,” he said. “It’s not like you become that person, but if you know that character as well as I do – because he wasn’t what the writers wrote, they really couldn’t write for him… If you know the character better than the writers, then you have to be true to the character and add your own words.”
