John Daly was disqualified by tradition for not signing the scorecard

John Daly was disqualified from the PGA Tour Champions’ first major of the year, Regions Tradition, on Friday after failing to sign his scorecard.

Exactly what happened beyond that is unclear, however, as the tour didn’t provide any further details.

Daly, who hit an opening round of 68 Thursday at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama, started his second round on the 10th hole and got off to a good start with birdies on four of his first 11 holes. Things quickly unraveled, however, when he double-bogeyed two of his last three, which according to the tour’s shot tracker included a four-putt on his final hole, to card an even par of 72.

Still, he was in decent form for the weekend. But that wasn’t to be after he failed to sign his card.

The DQ marked the first of 102 career starts for the 56-year-old in the seniors. Out of 541 starts on the PGA Tour, Daly has been disqualified five times, most recently at the 2003 Valero Texas Open.

Prior to this week’s tournament, Daly had only surpassed 70 once in six starts on the Over 50 Tour, with his best finish being 27th place.

Daly, a two-time major winner including the 1991 PGA Championship, is scheduled to play at the PGA Championship in Southern Hills next week.
