Joe Alwyn has dodged questions about Taylor Swift in a new interview, saying he doesn’t want to talk about their relationship because it “feeds into a weird part of the culture.”
The actor has reportedly been dating the musician since 2016. The two have since largely kept details of their relationship secret, but Swift’s 2019 track “London Boy” is reportedly about him.
Speaking about the decision not to talk about it, he said The guard: “It’s just not for other people. And I don’t say that with aggression.”
He added: “I don’t know the best way to talk about this. I mean, I’m aware that people are… so interested and that this world exists. It’s just not something that I particularly care about or have a great deal of interest in feeding I guess because the more it’s fed the more you open a gate for intruders.”
Alwyn said keeping the relationship private is his “response to a culture that has this increasing expectation that everything will be given,” adding, “When you’re not posting about how you make your coffee in the morning, or when you Don’t let anyone take a picture when you walk out your front door, is that private? I don’t know if it is. So I just don’t really feed that…
“There are more interesting things to talk about and I just think it feeds into a weird part of the culture that I’m not really interested in being a part of.”
About working on songs with Swift on her albums folklore and alwayshe said, “It came about because I was messing around with a piano and singing badly, then being overheard and thinking, ‘Let’s see what happens when we finish this together.'”
He added that it’s a “fun” thing, “just like baking sourdough in lockdown”.
