Jetstar passenger yanked off Bali flight after lighting cigarette on plane

Passengers on a flight from Melbourne, Australia, to Bali became furious this week after their already delayed departure was pushed back further by a man who lit a cigarette after boarding.

The person, seen in footage shared on TikTok, showed being escorted by police from Jetstar flight JQ1035 on Tuesday.

“This guy thinks a delayed flight means he can light a dart on the plane. No Bali vacation for you now,” the woman who filmed him wrote in her post.

She boarded at 3pm in Melbourne, Australia, and the flight still hadn’t left the tarmac at 7pm, she added.

The flight finally arrived at Ngurah Rai International Airport at 00:51 on Wednesday, after stopping in Darwin late Tuesday evening for refueling.

A Jetstar spokesman confirmed that the man behind the extended delay “lit a cigarette on board the aircraft prior to departure.”

“Smoking, vaping or the use of electronic cigarettes is not permitted on any Jetstar aircraft, in Australian airport terminals or on the tarmac,” a spokesman told news.com.au.

“The passenger was escorted off the plane and AFP was called. Safety is our top priority and our no-smoking policy is strictly enforced.”

“Australian Federal Police can confirm officers were called to a flight waiting to depart Melbourne Airport on September 6,” AFP told news.com.au

“Police were responding to allegations by a man of smoking on board an airplane. The man was escorted off the plane without further incident.”

The woman who filmed wrote in a text about her video that the flight was already delayed before the smoking drama.

“If your flight to Bali is already delayed and this guy decides to light a dart, then we have to wait for the police to take him away,” she wrote.

Some viewers were not surprised by the ordeal given the trajectory.

“Only on a flight to Bali, aye,” one viewer remarked.

“No bintangs for you mate,” said another in reference to the infamous Indonesian beer.

The Australian Federal Police have been contacted by news.com.au for comment.
