James Comey is ready to use his law enforcement experience to sell crime novels.
Plans were revealed Tuesday for Comey, the former FBI director, to write a book called Central Park West about an assistant US attorney investigating the possible Mafia connections to the murder of a local politician.
It would be the first of two Mysterious Press novels, written by Comey, who was summarily fired by former President Donald Trump in 2017 after four tumultuous years in office.
“I look forward to taking readers into fascinating worlds that I have learned from my time in government and the private sector,” Comey said in a statement.
“These stories are fiction, but inspired by the real work I’ve done, they offer a rarely seen glimpse into interesting people and institutions.”
Comey was an assistant US attorney from 1996 to 2001.
He oversaw the FBI when the agency investigated Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was Secretary of State. Comey determined in July 2016 that Clinton’s behavior did not warrant indictment, but then briefly reopened the case days before the Clinton-Trump presidential election.
Comey was also in charge when the bureau investigated allegations of links between Russia and Trump’s 2016 campaign.
in a tweet, Comey said of his new literary adventure, “The next thing I think readers are going to really enjoy.”
Comey is the author of two books, his memoirs A Higher Loyalty and Saving Justice, which were published in 2018 and 2021, respectively. A Higher Loyalty was later adapted into a 2020 miniseries entitled The Comey Rule, which aired on Showtime.
