Jake Paul has apparently started talks with an opponent for his return to the boxing ring in August, but they’re not exactly a former boxer or MMA star.
When Jake Paul confirmed he would be returning to boxing in August, rumors and speculation as to who his next opponent might be began to swirl.
The social media star has posted a “hit list” of her own, including boxing icons Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., as well as former UFC champion Michael Bisping. While the former boxers have remained silent about the potential fight, Jake and Bisping have spoken about making it a reality despite the Brit’s longstanding eye injury.
With that fight unlikely, the social media star has apparently turned his attention to former Rugby World Cup winner Sonny Bill Williams, with talks apparently recently opening up between the pair.
Williams, 36, is from New Zealand and has boxed throughout his professional rugby career – retiring in 2015. He returned to the ring in 2021, clinching a win over Waikato Falefehi and improving his overall record to 9-0.
After being named on Jake’s ‘hit list’, the New Zealander confirmed his interest in the fight and has since entered talks with Jake’s camp to make it a reality.
“I might be looking at August getting back in the ring,” Williams said Nine and Stan Sports in Australia. “Jake Paul, his people have reached out to mine and they’re talking, so who knows. The main thing is I’m very excited and very grateful to be back in the ring, with Stan, boxing.”
Looks like I’m on the hit list 🥴
I will not hate this guy at all as I respect what he did. I also very much respect his skills as a boxer. But if he wants something, he can get it! @jakepaul Sincerely yours – your first loss 🥊✊🏽 pic.twitter.com/wuGpZsyWD8

Over the past few months, Jake has been challenged by many fans, pundits and fighters to make his return to the ring and fight a “real life” boxer – someone who has dedicated his life to the sport.
While Williams may not tick that box entirely, he has a stable history in the sport and has proven practical enough in the ring. However, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
