Isolate Prince Charles after testing positive for COVID-19

LONDON (AP)

His office said on Thursday Britain’s Prince Charles had tested positive for COVID-19 and was self-isolating.

An announcement on his official Twitter page said Charles had tested positive on Thursday morning and was “deeply disappointed” at not being able to attend a scheduled visit to the southern English city of Winchester. .

Charles, 73, met dozens of people at a large reception at the British Museum in London on Wednesday night. He is accompanied by his wife Camilla and is in close contact with the British Treasurer Rishi Sunak, among others.

Charles’s office, Clarence House, confirmed that he was being vaccinated three times. It was not immediately clear what his condition was.

Charles had previously contracted the coronavirus in March 2020, during the first wave of the pandemic. Officials said he later had mild COVID-19 symptoms, and Charles later said that Charles and Camilla were isolated in Scotland at the time.

Britain’s Press Association news agency reported that Charles had recently met his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, but the king was not showing any symptoms.

The Queen, 95, marked her Platinum Jubilee on Sunday by expressing her wish for Camilla to be known as Queen Consort when Charles becomes king.

Camilla continued her commitments as scheduled on Thursday, visiting a sexual assault referral center in London.

King Felipe VI of Spain, 54, and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, 81, also tested positive for coronavirus this week.
