Iowa girl Ema Cardenas was killed in a hit and run days before her quinceañera

An Iowa girl was killed in a hit-and-run accident on her way home from school just days before her quinceañera, reports say.

14-year-old freshman Ema Cardenas was walking home from Des Moines East High School on Thursday when an SUV ran into her — then she fled the scene, leaving the teen mortally wounded on the street, the Des Moines Register reported.

Driver Terra Jean Flipping, 38, was arrested Friday after police found the SUV less than a mile from the crash, reported. Flipping is said to have stopped, got out and watched the carnage before driving away, the website said, citing police.

Cardenas was due to celebrate her 15th birthday this month, for which the teen would be wearing her mother’s dress. The girl is buried in the dress instead.

“She was so excited. Emerald green and gold are her favorite colors,” grieving mother Anna Campos told KCCI.

“Now I have to tell these family members that instead of sending invitations to their party, I need to extend invitations to their funeral.”

The mother now only wants to speak to those accused of the fatal accident.

“I want to forgive her,” Campos said. “I just want answers. For example, how can she… what was her state of mind to just leave someone there by the side of the road?” Iowa girl Ema Cardenas was killed in a hit and run days before her quinceañera
