Inside “Something Borrowed” author Emily Giffin’s $9 million Atlanta home

A best-selling author’s Atlanta home is now looking for a new owner to lead the property into its next chapter.
Emily Giffinwhose 2004 “Something borrowed‘, made into a 2011 film starring Kate Hudson and John Krasinski, has listed her home in the city’s affluent Buckhead neighborhood for $8.99 million, his realtor firm told The Post.
Giffin and her husband, Hartley Blaha, bought the home for $4.92 million in 2011, around the time of the film’s release, according to The Wall Street Journal first reported news this listing. Its current asking price makes it one of the most expensive homes for sale in Atlanta, the Journal added.
The late 1920’s Georgian Revival building spans almost 12 acres – with a southern-style facade of stately brick, columns and shuttered windows, as the listing pictures show. The photos also show a dining area with oversized windows next to a large eat-in kitchen, living areas with fireplaces, a wood-paneled library with another fireplace, and a sweeping staircase.

In total, the listing includes five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two powder rooms in an area of 9,286 square feet. In addition to the perks of the main house, there is also a pool, pool house, pond and barn.
The couple was drawn to the property’s historic charm, and the 12-acre piece of land offered their three children plenty of space to play. And during their tenure, Giffin and Blaha — the president of Atlanta-based Iron Works Logistics — spent about $2 million on renovations that affected the home, pool house, and barn.
With further touches like English gardens and a cozy breakfast room, it’s hard not to be inspired. Perhaps that’s why Giffin wrote her six most recent titles at home – including “Should be‘ to be released this month. The second floor of the pool house, overlooking the pool and gardens, served as her office.

Also on the ground floor of the main house is the master suite with a private sun room, two closets, a 1920’s style bathroom with two vanities and a freestanding bath. The four bedrooms upstairs have large closets. On the third floor, a games room/office space overlooks the front and rear gardens.
Outside, the grounds have a bluestone slate patio, fountain and two BBQ’s. The pool house is a 1,800 square foot, one bedroom, two bathroom retreat.
With the couple’s oldest children — twin sons — heading off to college in the fall, she and her youngest daughter will be moving into a smaller home in midtown Atlanta. The family also intends to buy a home in New York City.
Sam Bayne of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.
