ONLY Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst was heartbroken following the tragic death of his teenage son Archie.
Him and his wife Lucy Smith mourned their only child, who passed away from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 19 in 2020.
Nicholas, 60, was recently forced to deny that he had given up acting after a “terrible” loss that left him and his wife back from the limelight.
The couple are often seen together on the red carpet, but they have not appeared at events since the birth of their beloved son.
Former ballet dancer Lucy and actor Nicholas met in 1992, after she watched him perform twice on the West End show Straight and Narrow.
The Only Fools star spotted the brunette beauty in the crowd, who left him a bottle of champagne and a bill after his first performance.
Nicholas supported his wife throughout her dance career while he went on to film in various television shows including Goodnight Sweetheart and The Full Monty.
He often talks about how she is treated in the ballet company, revealing that anorexia has been encouraged throughout her career.
“I didn’t come across any of that,” he once said of the horrible treatment. “Dancers are only allowed to change shoes when the audience can see blood.”
The couple married in 1999 in a small ceremony in Chichester, West Sussex, and soon they welcomed their only son, Archie.
The close family are regularly seen posing together on the red carpet at various events – wearing dapper suits and Lucy often wearing stylish dresses.
Nicholas and Lucy’s son, Archie tragically passed away in 2020 after suffering a brain hemorrhage following a “short illness”.
In a statement released tonight, Only Fools star “Lucy and I are deeply saddened and respectfully request privacy.”
Archie tragically died on September 22. Police and an ambulance were called to “a report of welfare concerns” and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier this week, Nicholas denied he had given up acting after his son’s death, as his representatives insisted he was still receiving job offers.
Longtime friend and writer Laurence Marks said the actor – who rose to fame as Rodney Trotter in Only Fools – inability to return to focus.
“Nicholas went through a tragedy,” he said. It must have broken his heart. It will break anyone’s heart.
“He has always kept to himself and now he will do it more than ever. Now that he has lost his son, it will never appear again. I doubt we’ll see him act again. “
He added Daily Star Sunday “I’d say we’ll see him act again, but I don’t think we will.
“We will have to live on visual memories of him and we have a lot of them. We have to be grateful for that.”
However, a person representing Nicholas later denied the report saying that “he continues to receive offers repeatedly.”
They added Metro: “Of course he and his wife are heartbroken over the sudden passing of their young son, but Mr. Lyndhurst will continue his career with whatever part and script appeals to him.”
