Supreme Court nominee Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is done her testimony Wednesday in confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee. If confirmed in April, Jackson will become the first black woman to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.

Jackson is a DC native and district residents, prompting crowds to gather outside the Supreme Court on the first day of Monday’s hearing to rally in support of Jackson. (A small number of demonstrators protesting her nomination also turned up.) Locals also organized watch parties, many virtual and some in person, to celebrate the historic event. In the hearing room, the nominee – who currently serves on the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the DC circuit – withstood three grueling days of partisan questioning. The next steps in the nomination process are a committee vote, probably 4.4and the potential full Senate vote as early as the first weeks of April.
