Martine Le Gassick, creative director of British garden company Stark & Greensmith, narrates to express their own favorite weed killing tricks.

The simplest strategy is also the cheapest: completely free.

“When the garden starts to grow again in the spring, the nasty garden weeds also grow,” said Le Gassick.

“Harsh chemicals aren’t always an option when children or pets are around.”

Instead, simply boil water on the stovetop or a kettle, then slowly pour it over the weeds you want to banish from your garden plot.

“This is a quick and easy way to get rid of weeds,” advises Le Gassick.

“Just make sure you pour small amounts over the area,” she added.

Going slow will prevent hot water from splashing back on your skin, and adding small amounts at a time will prevent overwatering that could damage surrounding plants.

When trying to control weeds in crevices on sidewalks or garden paths, take extra care to avoid spraying on paved surfaces.

Also protect yourself, your pets and your family from the still steaming water after draining the hot water.

“Be sure to keep the area clean until the water cools,” Le Gassick added.

Then you can easily pull up any dirt or even brush it away with a small rake or trowel.

Boiling water is also environmentally friendly, introducing no unknown chemicals into your garden’s ecosystem and having no long-lasting effects on the surrounding plant environment.

However, you must be careful not to pour boiling water on the plants you plan to have in your garden – the hot temperature can kill the plant instantly.
