Weeds on your patio not only look messy, but left to their own devices they can get worse and cover your entire patio.

Garden experts at the to express have shown that you can use three household items to remove them.

Not only are these methods natural, but they save you money instead of going out and buying store-bought products.

Vinegar is a great product for killing weeds, the experts say.

They continue, “Products with high acid levels are usually effective, but you should avoid spraying them directly on the soil as substances like vinegar can break down the soil structure and kill it.”

Vinegar can be used alone or diluted with water, but be careful when using it on weeds along with plants you want to keep alive.

Simply spray it onto the grass, focusing on the stem.

Experts warn it will kill anything it touches, so it’s best used on patios or gravel.

Not only that, but it can prevent future growth in areas where it is applied.

Another product that works best against weeds in gravel or on patios is baking soda.

Scatter a teaspoon on the plant, focusing on the stem, to draw out moisture and dry out the weed.

But since baking soda can also damage grass and other plants, it’s best to control weeds that sprout on hard surfaces.

Salt is another natural household item that can help keep weeds at bay.

The experts add: “Salt has been used as a herbicide and pesticide for hundreds of years and is very effective.”

You can make a solution by mixing three parts water with one part salt until the salt dissolves.

You can then spray the solution on weeds, but again, experts warn against using it on lawns as it can prevent future growth.

White vinegar can be bought in Asda for just 30p, while salt can be bought in most supermarkets for 50p.
