Thanks to platforms like TikTok and Instagram, beauty products can also go viral, appearing in videos overnight and disappearing from shelves just as quickly.
An Ulta employee who has seen viral favorites run rampant and sell out gave her followers an honest look at the platform’s biggest hits and revealed which picks aren’t worth the money.
Gisselle doesn’t reveal her last name in her videosbut she confirms her Ulta employee status by letting viewers see her lanyard and name tag.
“These products went viral on TikTok,” Gisselle said of the introduction. “I’ll let you know if they’re underrated, overrated, or justified.”
EYES HAVE IT
The first product was Essence’s Lash Princess Mascara, a cult-favorite mascara that costs just $5 and promises results identical to high-end brands.
“Is it affordable? Yes! Is it the best mascara when using it for the first time? Yes!” admitted Giselle.
“But after a few uses, it’s a lumpy mess.”
Commentators were quick to agree with her. “I was so disappointed with Essence’s mascara,” wrote one viewer.
Gisselle described the cheap purchase as “overrated”.
A SPATULA GOOD DEAL
Next up was the putty blush line of eleven. Gisselle immediately said the hype surrounding these $7 blush pots was justified.
“These will melt on your skin like butter on a hot cookie,” says the Ulta expert.
“And can we talk about the price?” she continued. “So affordable for the way they work.”
A viewer in the comments said she bought the blush after watching Gisselle’s video.
“Finally got it and loving it,” she wrote.
NO GREAT SHINE
One of the most controversial products Gisselle spoke about was the NYX Shine Loud Lip Color, a long-wearing lip gloss that became so popular on TikTok that the product’s online reviews are filled with mentions of the app.
“Get this gooey latex mess out of my face,” Gisselle wrote.
“I really don’t understand how people keep buying this particular Lippie.”
Some commenters were surprised by their virulent dislike for the gloss, which retails for $11.50 in Ulta stores.
“Must have the best lips out there because I love this NYX lipstick,” one person wrote.
But others agreed with Gisselle’s assessment that the lip gloss was overrated.
“I knew I could trust you when you drew the NYX,” said another woman. “This texture is like hot asphalt.”
THE MANE EVENT
Finally, Gisselle reviewed the Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer, a product by Eva Nyc that many consider a “dupe” of a much more expensive item.
Mane Magic is “as good as a 10,” Gisselle wrote.
She was referring to It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product, which also protects and preps hair for heat styling.
The Eva Nyc spray is only $11.99 for a 5.4 ounce container, while $21 at Ulta buy 4 ounces of It’s a 10.
Gisselle called the Mane Magic spray underrated and said it “deserves to go viral again.”
“I have the Eva Nyc and she’s amazing,” agreed one commenter. “Smells so good too!”
And another viewer jokingly berated Gisselle for introducing the spray to the world.
“I don’t want it to sell out,” she wrote.
