SPIRIT Airlines passengers went wild on social media when the airline issued a temporary grounding order due to “IT issues”.

Many people were left stranded on Valentine’s Day due to connectivity issues affecting flights, according to an announcement from the airline.

“How long until everything will be up and running?” asked on Twitter users. “Being stuck at the airport on Valentine’s Day is incredibly frustrating! How do you not have a backup plan to send flights?”

Another Twitter user added: “Sitting for almost 3 hours on the tarmac in Newark, the hostess served half a glass of water and told my fiance he had to pay when he asked for a little more. .”

Jeff Rich, stranded at Chicago’s O’Hare airport on his way to Phoenix, told The Sun he might not even be in a fight tonight.

“Phoenix is ​​home to me but we have so many places to go in Chicago we wouldn’t be too inconvenienced by this, but that’s clearly not the case for everyone,” he said.

“We just want to go home, I know a lot of people – especially home or on vacation – who don’t want to sit at this airport gate.”

Many people on Facebook also expressed their frustration with the delay.

“We waited more than 3 hours to leave Louisville,” wrote one visitor on Spirit website.

“I’ll be calling to claim this inconvenience. Reservations must be delayed. Let your patrons know we’re appreciated.”

The airline posted an update shortly after 6 p.m. EST saying it had resumed operations after IT issues created some delays and cancellations.

“Our airport operations are up and running and we are working to restore the site’s functionality,” read the statement. “If you need assistance, you can chat with us by scanning the QR code at the airport or texting us a direct SMS at 833-417-5700”

According to FlightAware, 31% of its 225 flights have been delayed.

Those with canceled flights have the option of a refund, a booking credit or to be rebooked on another Spirit flight, the company said.

Spirit Airlines did not immediately respond when reached for comment.

This is not the first time the low-cost carrier has faced operational problems.

Come back in August it canceled 60% of flights in just one daytrapped thousands of people.

Airlines canceled 416 flights for the day due to “operational issues” that affected flights for three days.
