President Trump, I’m confused!
In your angry statement about our interview for my new show Piers Morgan Uncensored‘ you call it ‘long and tedious’, but also ‘very hard’.
Which is it?
It was certainly long at over 70 minutes – and if you’re really upset that I had so much extra time, why didn’t you finish it much sooner? — but judging by the global media furore it already generated before it even aired, it was far from boring.
And there were certainly a lot of very strong moments.
They call me “Fake News Media” and claim that I “attempted to edit unlawfully and in a deceptive manner the 30-second promo we released yesterday to promote the interview.”
But ironically, that claim itself is fake news.
You said all the things we see you saying in this promo and they are an accurate representation of the most controversial part of our interview.
(As an aside, I remember you produced many similar dramatic promos about me when I was on your Celebrity Apprentice show, which includes the most interesting moments to tempt people to watch, so I’m surprised that you now think it’s terrible to do something…)
In the lengthy article I wrote in the New York Post yesterday, I made the precise sequence of events and context crystal clear.
So in fact it is YOUR disingenuous statement that is misleading.
The bottom line is that we had a wide-ranging conversation on a range of issues, on which I agreed with you on many points. As you know, this was certainly not a Trump bashing interview. I’ve always tried to be fair to you.
But when I told you I don’t believe the 2020 election was rigged or stolen from you, you got angry and called me a “fool” seven times.
You reiterated in your statement that if I really believed these results, I was a fool.
Well, I do — like many senior Republicans, from Mitch McConnell to Mike Pence — so I guess I must identify as an idiot by your criteria.
That doesn’t change my belief that you fairly lost the 2020 election and to this day have not presented any clear evidence of it.
Until or if you do, I politely suggest that you stop perpetuating such an absurd deception that only makes you look like the world’s worst loser and a bit of a nutcase. Like a guy pointing at a blue sky and saying it’s red.
You insist our encounter ended bitterly, but as the footage clearly shows, your final actions were to say curtly, “Turn off the camera!” to my crew, then walk away through a side door, muttering loudly, “So dishonest” about me.
This was after I politely shook your hand and thanked you for the interview.
I was shocked. It was an angry, and frankly rude, way to end a volatile interview that saw your mood swing wildly from friendly to hostile — especially towards the end.
But I wasn’t dishonest.
As with the 2020 election, the promo was not rigged.
And as viewers will discover Monday when my new show airs on Fox Nation, it was a great interview.
