I was fined £70 for parking too early at the supermarket

A CHARITY employee says she “feels sick” after being fined £70 for leaving her car in an Asda car park before it opened.

Mrs. Elliott left the car outside Asda Bexleyheath, Kent at 9.56 a.m. Sunday.

Asda says: "We would like to thank the majority of customers for responsible parking."

“We want to thank the majority of our customers who use the car park responsibly,” Asda said.

She knew parking was free only when the store was open – believing it would open at 10am.

But when Asda went into business at 11 a.m. Sunday, Elliott was fined a private parking space.

51 years old Kent The woman chose not to reveal her name.

She told News shoppers: “I felt sick to my stomach when I saw the ticket.

“I am really appalled by this.

“It’s really a scam, we’re just innocent people shopping.”

Ms. Elliott said her finances were particularly vulnerable at this time of year.

The fee notice she was sent in the letter explained that she had parked her car “too early”.

After demonstrating to the parking operator Parkingeye’s that she was a “genuine customer” of Asda, the penalty fee was reversed.

A spokesperson for Parkingeye said: “Parking is only available while the store is open, which is from 11am on Sunday.

“However, the parking fee notice was canceled on an appeal after they provided proof that they were genuine customers.

“If anyone has extenuating circumstances, we would encourage them to make this clear by appealing to Parkingeye.”

An Asda spokesperson told us: “Customers can park for free at our Bexleyheath store for up to three hours while the store is open, including on Sundays.

“There is clear signage throughout the parking lot and we would like to thank the majority of our customers for using the car park responsibly.”

Private parking charge notices are not legally supported and can be appealed internally at the parking lot owner’s policy.
