I was charged for AIR in the rented house by the Airbnb host who locked the AC unit behind the money box

One TIKTOKER has claimed that they were charged for air when they rented a house by an Airbnb host.

Social media user @papiwhiterice posted a short clip on the site just three days ago and it has garnered over 174,000 views and hundreds of comments.

Footage on TikTok shows an air conditioner thermostat locked behind what appears to be a coin-operated lockbox.

The person who posted the clip added the words “When our Airbnb host charges you to air”.

Although the location of the property was not mentioned, the trademark of the lockbox is believed to be made by a company in Madrid, Spain, according to Dot daily.

Lockbox described above brand’s website as consumption limit “to save and control the cost of electricity in hotels, dormitories, country houses and all types of accommodation. They work over time, either by coin or token. ”

From TikToker’s previous videos, it looks like he went on a month-long trip in the Iberian country, showing that Airbnb was in Spain.

Many commentators were equally outraged.

“It’s crazy. My Airbnb in Cuba even has free Wi-Fi and ac,” one person said.

“I’ll leave and go to the hotel,” said another commenter.

Some people though have sympathized with the presenter, with one writing: “Yeah, it’s called electricity and it’s really expensive. Air is free, it does not cool. “

While one added: “You have no idea how insanely expensive electricity is here. People are getting poorer because of it literally.”
