I found a feature on my iPhone that allowed me to hear what my friends were saying behind my back

Would you use an iPhone feature that lets you hear what your friends are saying about you as you walk away from the table?

One woman did it — and says it’s a “wonderful little hack.”

TikTok user Michelle Guo @woahguo shared their experience of enabling the hidden feature.

“I think back to the time I turned on ‘Live Listen’ on my iPhone, left my phone on the table and walked away with my AirPods so I could hear what everyone was saying without me being in the room,” she wrote in a video.

Live Listen was introduced in 2014 to help iPhone users with hearing aids hear others in noisy environments.

The setting allows an iPhone or iPad to act as a microphone and send sound to the hearing aids.

It originally only worked with iPhone-compatible hearing aids, but has since expanded to AirPods.

So Guo could use it in a room with her friends.

Guo learned about the hiring from Apple’s website, she told the Daily Dot.

She said she tested it with her friends, which led to the TikTok video.

Guo told the outlet she posted about the hiring to raise awareness.

The video has garnered nearly 725,000 views.

Hundreds of people have commented and asked Guo how she enabled the hidden setting.

She responded to many by writing, “Settings > Control Center > Add Hearing > Connect AirPods > Turn on Live Listen > Hang up the phone, walk away and listen.”

Guo also posted a follow-up comment explaining her specific reasons for using the setting.

“STORYTIME: The only time I did this was when I tested it with my friends after we read about it online…USE RESPONSIBLY!!!!” Guo wrote.

Some users were shocked to learn about the setting, while others were nervous about what they would learn from using the setting while hanging out with friends.

“I’m scared of what they’re going to say,” wrote one user.

“I did something similar in elementary school, found out my friends were talking about me, and dumped them,” said another.

“I did it once and I won’t do it again,” wrote another user.
