Humble ISD: Kingwood students seek criminal charges after violent school fight

KINGWOOD, Texas (KTRK) – A group of students and parents met at Kingwood Town Center Monday afternoon to call for change and justice for two students who were recently injured at Kingwood Park High School.

“Two students ended up in the hospital and this is absolutely unacceptable,” said Casandra Magee, a sophomore who helped organize the peaceful rally.

The group gathered to show support, raise funds and call for justice for these two students who were seriously injured in two separate fights in the high school last week.

The first student was allegedly attacked in the men’s room by a peer. The attack was recorded and shared on a student’s cell phone video.

“It was a lot. It was a lot to see one of your colleagues being so brutally attacked in a school toilet. It was horrible to watch,” Magee said.

The very next day, Cheyla Glenn’s son was injured trying to defend a student in a second fight.

“[I]got a call from one of my sons that my other son was on the ground convulsing after being hit,” Glenn said.

Male students from Kingwood Park High School were taken to the hospital two days in a row, both have since been discharged but are still recovering at home.

Humble ISD says school security has been added but students at the rally say they still don’t feel safe.

“I think it’s because they’re not taking the necessary precautions that they should,” said second student Hailey Veren.

Precautions such as criminal charges. Veren and Magee say they want to see a message in the form of serious consequences.

“If these students are prosecuted, I believe that will establish zero tolerance for violence in our school district,” Magee said.

“I think once everyone knows that this student is being given the right consequence, everyone will feel a lot more confident,” Veren said.

The Headmaster released a statement saying Humble ISD Police are still investigating the attacks.

A spokesman for the Harris Co. Attorney’s Office says they have to wait for school police to present the case for possible charges.

“The students at the school shouldn’t have to be afraid to go to school,” Glenn said.
