The high school sent a letter to the parents of all students.
Dear Kingwood Park Families,
Since yesterday afternoon we have been working on collecting facts and presenting them to the authorities. As you can understand, investigators need time to do their job so that we can share factual information.
On Wednesday, around 12:30 p.m. during flex hour, two male students exchanged words in a hallway and agreed to go to a restroom, where the disagreement of words turned into a physical altercation. Other students came into the restroom to watch, and some students took videos with their cell phones. One of the students was hit several times in the face and jaw.
A student then walked down the hall from the toilet and informed a teacher, who responded immediately. The administration, the police and the school nurse reacted immediately. The boy who left the toilet was found within minutes.
The student needed medical attention. The other student now faces consequences. The humble ISD police are about to present evidence to the Harris County Attorney’s Office. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is the jurisdiction authorized to bring criminal charges.
Also, during flex hour today, seven students were involved in a fight with one student requiring medical attention after the fight. Administrators and police are investigating this incident. Participating students were identified. We are in contact with her parents and the consequences are being determined.
These incidents are unacceptable for our school. There are consequences for behaviors that affect student well-being and the learning environment.
We are aware of the rumors circulating on social media and are working with our police force to investigate. Classes will take place on Friday as usual. Parents are always free to send a message that their student is away if the parents choose to keep them at home. Additional police officers will be present on campus as a precaution. From Friday 29th April until further notice our bell schedule will include three lunch breaks instead of all students being in one flexible hour together.
I would encourage any student who witnesses an ongoing situation to inform an adult immediately. Observing a situation in progress and recording video draws the attacker’s attention and encourages more violence. Please report any concerns to school staff, Humble ISD Police at 281-641-7900 or through the Humble ISD iHELP app.
The mother of the student, who needed medical attention, said her son is still in the hospital with, among other things, a wired jaw.
A protest was scheduled for Friday at 7:15 a.m. in Kingwood Park.
