Moreno recalls in a 2017 interview, “We all wore the same color makeup, it was a very different time. I remember telling my makeup artist one day — because it was like putting mud on my face, it was very dark and I’m a fairly fair Spaniard — and one day I told the makeup artist point, “God! Why must we all have the same color? Puerto Ricans are French and Spaniards… “And it’s true, we have a lot of different skin colors, we’re Taino Indians, we’re black, some of we.” The makeup team’s reaction to Moreno was less than ideal. “And the man with the makeup was actually saying to me, ‘What? Are you a racist? ”, she recalled. “I was so confused that I couldn’t come back with an answer.”
