Cobra Kai introduced Peyton List as Tory in Season 2. Tory joined Cobra Kai for training and became a love interest for Miguel (Xolo Maridueña). But when Miguel got back together with Samantha (Mary Mouser), Tory came after Samantha in season two’s high school fight. Tory and Samantha continue to be rivals, with seasons 3 and 4 exploring more of Tory’s domestic situation. Things are tough for Tory, but they actually helped List.
list appeared on Cobra Kai co-star Martin Kove’s podcast Kick it with the Koves on April 6th. During the discussion, List revealed how playing Tory has helped her self-image in real life. Cobra Kai Season 5 is coming soon to Netflix.
Before Cobra Kai, Peyton List was a Disney girl
List’s big break was the Disney show jessie. She followed that bunk bed. Tory represented a transition into more mature roles and the kind of volatility that defies Disney.

“It has helped me to be more myself with people,” List continued Kick it with the Koves. “I think I felt pressure to be everyone’s Disney girl. Once Cobra Kai came out, people came and they accepted me as this character and they liked what I was doing. It kind of gave me that freedom.”
Tory in “Cobra Kai” actually teaches Peyton List to lose her guard.
Tory goes down hard on everyone, even Miguel. Cobra Kai Seasons 3 and 4 showed that Tory a strained relationship with her mother, and her landlord sexually harassed her. Tory also has trouble keeping a job due to her temper. Playing her, however, gave List the freedom to relax her guard.

“It’s allowed me to lower my guard and say oh I can be real and I can be honest and I can be mean at times when I don’t feel like I’m wearing this fake Disney version of want to be myself ‘ List said. “It allowed me to be really honest. So Tory helped me in my real life. I think that people who accepted the fighter and a strong woman helped me to allow myself to be more myself.”
Peyton List is not a role model
Little kids looked up to List because of the Disney shows. Her parents would tell her that. Maybe even Cobra Kai List made a role model, as Tory stands up for itself. List learns that she doesn’t have to be what other people want her to be.
“Parents come up to me and say, ‘Oh, you’re such a nice role model for my kid,'” List said. “I’m going to be like, ‘Oh my god, I don’t want to screw this up, so I should hide that part of me. I should act like I’m what they want people to please.”
