How many Pokemon will there be in 2022? All types & generations

Wondering how many Pokémon are there in the world? From beginners to Legendaries of all kinds, there are tons of Mon to find if you want to catch them all.

The popular Pokemon franchise now spans decades, with many different creatures and types introduced since it first hit the scene in 1996, so it can be difficult to keep track of just how many Pokemon there are gives.

Each new generation can bring over a hundred Mon into the National Pokedex, so we’ll keep this page updated as new games are released – but for now, that’s all the information you need to know.

How many Pokemon will there be in 2022?

Currently there is 905 Pokemon in the national Pokedex. That number rises to 908 with the unveiling of Fuecoco, Quaxly and Srigatito, but they won’t be counted until they’re known Scarlet & Violet are released.

Our number does not include regional forms like Alolan Vulpix or Galarian Rapidash as they are considered the same number in the Pokedex.

It is also worth noting that these 905 species span multiple games and generations. Although there may be close to a thousand mon in total, you will never find that many in a single game.

How many Legendary Pokémon are there?

Currently there is 60 Legendary Pokemon, which is a massive increase over the five in the original games. The latest addition to this lineup is Enamorus from Legends Arceus.

This number includes pre-evolutions like Cosmog and Cosmoem, but excludes Galarian versions of Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos. It also counts Urshifu as a Legendary even though he has two “styles”.

New Legendaries are constantly being added to the Pokedex.

How many types of Pokémon are there?

There is now 18 types of Pokemon Available to Catch: Bug, Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Stone, Steel and Water.

All of these types have been available since Gen 1, with the exception of Dark and Steel, which were introduced in Gen 2, and Fairy, which were introduced in Gen 6. No other types have been added since then.

How many generations of Pokémon are there?

Currently there is Eight generations of Pokémonalthough that will soon increase to nine in the next games, Scarlet and Violet will be released sometime towards the end of 2022.

Each generation contains multiple games – for example, Gen 8 had Sword & Shield, as well as Legends Arceus and Let’s Go! – but traditionally there is always a pair of main lines games per generation.

These are Red & Blue (Gen 1), Gold & Silver (Gen 2), Ruby & Sapphire (Gen 3), Diamond & Pearl (Gen 4), Black & White (Gen 5), X & Y (Gen 6), Sun & Moon (Gen 7) and Sword & Shield (Gen 8).
