What is Progeria?
Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria syndrome, also known as Progeria or HGPS, is a rare and fatal genetic condition.
Another progeria syndrome is Werner syndrome, also known as “adult progeria”.
This type doesn’t manifest until the late teen years, and people who get it have a life expectancy of about 40 and 50 years.
It is thought that there are 100 known cases in the world, and according to a study from the Netherlands, this rate affects a quarter of a million births.
Progeria does not affect the reproductive organs, and there have been cases of women with the condition giving birth to healthy babies.
