PAULO DYBALA is available on a free transfer after failing to secure a new Juventus contract – and a used car salesman has to say thank you.
The Argentine has associated with a departure from Italy for the last two years.
But talks to renew his deal also took place late last year and seemed on the horizon.
During this time, Dybala’s agent Jorge Antun, who is also a used car salesman, was doing his agency exams.
It is believed that Antun was not officially recognized in Italy and needed the official documentation to do so.
But while he was working to become a legal agent in Italy, Dybala has sustained injuries.
Juve would instead sign Dusan Vlahovic (22) in January and put contract talks with Dybala (28) on hold.
meaning that forward looks likely to go away for free after missing the boat to renew his deal while Antun was undergoing agency testing.
In a recent BBC Euroleagues PodcastJournalist James Horncastle breaks down the full story.
Horncastle said: “I think Paulo Dybala expects him to sign a new contract by now.
“He definitely wanted to stay and made that very clear, he wanted to keep wearing the number 10 shirt, gets along very well with Alessandro Del Piero, has Del Piero’s support.
“But in recent years, certainly in the last 18 months, he has been biased by injuries, he played four games in the league from start to finish last year, just four.
“Nine that year and in October they had a verbal agreement on a new deal that would make him one of the club’s highest paid players, if not the highest paid.
“Then the injuries came back, the club went in a different direction, they signed Dusan Vlahovic in January and they said: ‘Actually, we’re going to build the team around Dusan Vlahovic, I’m really sorry about that’.
“They didn’t question the player’s talent, he’s just injured at one age, in his late 20s.
“And I also think that in his case he had his family do part of the negotiations and then a used car salesman who had to go through all the agent checks and paperwork and stuff like that to become an agent and stuff like that delayed things.
“And in that time he got injured and suddenly Juventus’ plans changed.”
