HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Houston police arrested a man they believe killed another man Sunday and then returned two days later to attempt to kill a witness to the incident. killing.

Parys Burks-Henderson, 18, is charged with murder for the shooting death of 21-year-old Alexis Cantu, as well as attempted murder in the shooting death of a 22-year-old. The male victim, who was shot multiple times in his sleep, was a witness to the murder, police said. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the murder happened on Sunday, February 6, when Burks-Henderson broke into an apartment in the 1200 block of Redford Street in southeast Houston and shot and killed Cantu in the presence of three people. witness. Burks-Henderson took off shortly thereafter.

Two days later, on the morning of February 8, police said he entered an apartment in the same location and shot a witness.

Burks-Henderson was in court Friday night, where a judge refused to bind and read out the probable cause affidavit.

“He walked into his apartment, went back to his bedroom. A witness heard him say, ‘I bet you won’t gasp,’ and then he heard gunshots.” , she said.

Court records show that Burks-Henderson was released from prison for the crime of felony while also completing his adjournment trial for breaking into a home in January 2021.

Police have yet to release a motive in the first fatal shooting.

Police say they believe Burks-Henderson planned to leave town and records show his family sent him money for bus tickets prior to his arrest.
