Harry Potter fans finally got their first glimpse of Hogwarts’ legacy in the March State of Play. Here are five things we’ve learned about the upcoming RPG.
WB Games Avalanche tried to include everything from the books and films that franchise fans would instantly recognize – but the studio went beyond what we know about the iconic Hogwarts Castle and its school grounds.
Players will explore vast regions as they master a variety of spells while uncovering secrets inside and outside of the beloved school of witchcraft and wizardry.
There’s a lot to look forward to. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s to come in Hogwarts Legacy.
A living Hogwarts
It was a given that Hogwarts Legacy would incorporate the famous castle in some way, but the halls will come alive as people play through the game.
Not only will we see familiar ghosts and portraits, but the developers will also be hiding tons of secrets and passageways through the school for players to uncover with magic.
Everything from common rooms to courtyards full of students can be explored – depending on which house you’ve been sorted into, of course.
Hogwarts Students: Create a Character
We always assumed, but now we know that Hogwarts Legacy will include a character creation feature to begin your wizarding school journey.
You can customize everything from height, hair, and facial features before being sorted into your home.
How this affects players being sorted into a house, if it has any effect at all, remains to be seen, but this is the first step in introducing us to the RPG.
Flying on broomsticks
Hogwarts Legacy will have gameplay mechanics that will have players take to the skies with broomsticks to traverse the game.
We’re still waiting for some form of Quidditch to be integrated, but the devs said we could “learn and master” broom flying – which will hopefully be useful on a pitch.
Either way, learning how to fly a broomstick will prove extremely helpful considering Hogwarts Legacy…
Open world gameplay
We knew Hogwarts Legacy would take players to different locations like Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest, but players will be able to travel from place to place on foot or on her broom.
Avalanche builds the game as an open-world experience that takes players to never-before-seen locations around the school grounds.
The surrounding areas will be filled with smaller villages filled with vendors, puzzles, NPCs with missions and even enemy camps, like a real open world environment.
Nothing screams Harry Potter like a snow-covered Hogwarts, and thankfully, players can experience the world in all seasons.
Spring, summer, fall and winter will all have their environmental impacts, making the world around Hogwarts feel “alive with activity, wonder and areas of unusual interest.”
While there won’t be a clubhouse per se, Hogwarts Legacy will allow players to customize vivariums with the help of Deek the house elf.
Players have a “summoning budget” that limits the number of items that can be summoned in that personalized area.
Humans can use moonstone resources to summon anything from a hut to various accessories in which to store and manage your magical beasts.
Dark magic and different ways
Depending on how the player wants to experience Hogwarts Legacy, it sounds like you could be either the hero of the story or a dark wizard in the making.
At least one Unforgivable Curse, Avada Kedavra, was featured with a brilliant flash of green effects emanating from the player’s wand.
It will be interesting to see how far the game lets us affect the events of Hogwarts Legacy if we choose to study the Dark Arts.
Liquid magic combat
Hogwarts Legacy will have live battles against all types of creatures and wizards.
Speculations about how the developers would mix the gameplay with spells and the scope of combat had some wondering if there would be a turn-based system, but that’s not the case.
Everything from damaging spells to stuns and spells will be in play, and players will need to figure out the right combination of tricks to complete specific challenges.
Dozens of spells
As players develop their character, they learn advanced tricks and more spells to combine in battle.
The trailer mentioned there will feature “dozens” of spells like Incendio and Descendo, all of which can be used to alter your playthrough.
Development of talents and skills
Players can find and complete challenges to improve their spells and talents like potion mastery or plant crafting.
This allows players to tailor the gameplay to their preferences and interests, e.g. B. fight with unique plants or tame large fantastic beasts wherever you find them.
Talents and abilities will be an important point in determining what type of wizard or witch you want to grow into.
There will be plenty to discover in Hogwarts Legacy, so stay tuned for Dexerto’s coverage of the game leading up to the release of Holiday 2022.
