Hennepin County Sheriff admits DUI . charge

Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) – Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson pleaded guilty to drunk driving.

The sheriff issued a press release today saying he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor DUI charge in Douglas County Court. The allegation stems from a rollover accident in the early hours of December 8 when Hutchinson sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries when he lost control of a Hennepin County-owned vehicle while driving on I. -94 near Alexandria.

“As Chief of Police, I prioritized taking care of my employees’ well-being; however, I didn’t practice what I preached. This incident was a wake-up call to me. I understand the extent of this. seriousness of my actions and I take full responsibility.”

Sheriff Hutchinson said he has returned to work and is now enrolled in an outpatient program to “address my issues with alcohol and my overall health.” He described it as the first step on the road to recovery and regaining public confidence.
