Gus Johnson claims Abelina Sabrina’s video denouncing YouTuber ‘mischaracterized’ him.

Gus Johnson was convicted after an October 2021 video by ex-partner Abelina Sabrina alleging the YouTube star had been abusive during their relationship, including through an ectopic pregnancy. Six months later, Johnson said he was “mischaracterized” throughout the drama and shared his story.

Abelina Sabrina’s October 2021 video titled “My ectopic pregnancy— without naming Gus Johnson — claimed the YouTube star was unsupportive, abusive and callous throughout their three-year relationship, including during her pregnancy angst.

Sabrina outlined situations in which Johnson dismissed her issue, including ignoring her pain to create content and drink instead.

Gus Johnson apologized in a five-minute reply in January, about three months after Sabrina’s allegations were made public. But a further three months later, Johnson has defended himself in a candid interview with the Twitch star ‘paymoneywubby’.

In it, the disgraced YouTube star explained that Sabrina “mischaracterized” Johnson’s actions during the ordeal. He also stated that while he “doesn’t want to negate or discredit some of the legitimate traumas she’s had to go through,” there were two sides to the story.

Abelina Sabrina released a 24-minute video detailing her relationship with Johnson in October 2021.

“It was real. It was painful. I was just so sad that we had to go through that shit,” he revealed.

Johnson said Sabrina and himself both agreed that if she became pregnant they “would seek termination” as they “didn’t get much out of it.” [their] Personal life okay.”

However, after receiving the news she was expecting, “Sabrina started to change her mind about what we were going to do with the kid.

“She completely changed her mind about it, and I didn’t deal with it in a mature way. I was really scared and told her I wasn’t ready for that,” he admitted.

When it was revealed that Sabrina had an ectopic pregnancy – where it begins to develop outside the womb – he tried to support her. Though he didn’t go to the hospital with her but instead did fulfill a podcast commitment, he soon joined her for surgery and then recovery.

“In the year after the surgery, she and I went to so many doctor’s appointments together, saw dozens of specialists. Our daily life was pretty much determined by the situation,” he explained.

“It felt like nothing was being figured out and nothing could be done all along [in recovery]. There were just times when I was just frustrated with the problem that the situation wasn’t improving and I said some stupid things. I have since apologized for these things. It’s embarrassing.

“It was worn out of fear and exhaustion, but that doesn’t make them okay.”

Johnson and Sabrina’s relationship deteriorated in the years following the ectopic pregnancy, culminating in their split in September 2021. However, after nearly a year of couples therapy and a private breakup, Sabrina expressed interest in getting back together.

“It was pretty soon after we broke up privately that one weekend I was babysitting the dog to get some stuff out of my house and get the dog. She surprised me because she brought me some presents and said she wanted to get back together with me. She was sorry it hadn’t worked out and didn’t want to give up.

“I was just looking at all the effort we’ve put in over the last year and I thought we’d tried as much as we could but I said, ‘I’m sorry I’m not there right now. ‘ That was before I posted the public statement on Twitter, and I texted her that morning saying, ‘I want you to weigh what we’re saying.’

“She yelled at me and said, ‘Get out whatever you want, but don’t say it’s mutual, that’s a lie.’ She slammed my door and left the house. Shortly after that this video came out about the worst time of our lives and I just didn’t expect it.”

The aftermath of that video, Johnson believes, profoundly mischaracterized him. This included Sabrina sharing posts on Twitter from random people attacking him, as well as making memes about the situation.

Sabrina also reportedly reached out to close friends of Johnson’s and business associates, urging them to distance themselves from him. That includes Eddy Burback, with whom Gus did a podcast through October 2021.

“She made a lot of my friends and people I do business with stop them from working with me. I know this because over the last half year some of these people have come up to me personally and just said that they felt extremely uncomfortable with her,” he said.

Johnson’s initial apology in January 2022 drew criticism from many.

Johnson published a sketch in December 2021 who was widely criticized for being deaf to Sabrina’s concerns – something he admitted was “never his intention” despite turning to others for advice.

Later he laid out an apology video in January 2022 address the issues publicly. Sabrina discredited some of Gus’ claims, including one in which they went to couples therapy. After she shared receipts and paperwork on Twitter, her tone changed in his eyes.

“There was a lot of fighting with my character and my choices,” he continued.

“She tweeted trying to discredit the counselor, calling her a TikTok therapist, and then trying to share intimate details – totally mischaracterized and taken out of context – about things we talked about in those sessions to have.

“She deleted it immediately, and then about an hour later she tweeted that she wasn’t going to talk about it any further. I think you could clearly see the contradiction in intent on those two things within hours.”

As Johnson ponders rebuilding his platform on YouTube — He’s been posting about once a week since the apology went live — He is also working to clear his name with those he cares about.

For the public? He has “no interest in a public back and forth about this situation”.

“I’ve lived with a lot of people…really afraid of what to do and unsure of where I stand. I want people to know that I’m no longer trying to discredit people or cause any problems with them,” he concluded.

“In the last half year it has been really difficult in many areas and it has significantly affected my mental health. I’m finally getting to a point in my personal life where hopefully a lot of that has subsided, but it’s difficult as I continue to venture onto my own platforms.

“It’s hurtful, embarrassing and difficult to see large numbers of people with a completely wrong idea of what happened.”
