Guilty director Antoine Fuqua signs first look deal with Netflix

Film maker Antoine Fuqua signed a first look film deal with Netflix under his renamed production banner Hill District Media. As reported by Diversity, the deal comes after a successful release The Guilty on the streaming platform, which Jake Gyllenhaal is receiving a lot of buzzing awards.

While there are no new Netflix projects in Fuqua’s hectic schedule, the filmmaker commented on the deal by saying that “working with Netflix on The Guilty it was a rewarding experience, both from an artistic and collaborative point of view. Fuqua also added that he is “delighted to continue this relationship and expand our film portfolio with a visionary partner at Hill District Media.”

On the Netflix side, vice president of Netflix Film Tendo Nagenda praised Fuqua, who is an “influential storyteller who believes that art can make meaningful change in the world”. For the first look deal, Nagenda said that “We [Netflix] Had a great collaboration with him on The Guilty and look forward to telling more stories together in the future. ”

The Guilty is an American film adaptation of the 2018 Danish crime thriller Den Skyldige. The film follows a switchboard operator of the police dispatch center trying to help an accident victim. In the adaptation, Gyllenhaal plays Joe Baylor, a man who does everything he can to help the victims on the other side of the phone. However, Joe becomes entangled in a crime not as it seems and must find out the truth about the call he received before someone gets hurt.

The Guilty was praised for its unconventional approach to a horror film as it took the focus away from the action sequences and into human relationships. But, of course, such a premise can only work with a powerful cast starring, and in the case of the adaptation, Gyllenhaal is just incredible. In his movie review, Adam Chitwood say:

“Particularly with Gyllenhaal’s performance, The Guilty well worth the wait, but Fuqua and Pizzolatto are also able to make a gripping, tense, emotional thriller about everything from policy to mental illness making it a must-see via. ”

The Guilty The script has been adapted by Nic Pizzolatto, a three-time Emmy Award nominee who created the hit series on HBO True Detective. The film is directed by Fuqua, who worked with Pizzolatto on The Magnificent Seven rework, do it again. The Guilty now available on Netflix.
