GTA 6 Fake Announcement “Leaks” Trends Reach Absurd New Levels

Fans waiting for Rockstar Games to finally get its first official look at GTA 6 were disappointed once again after a viral “leak” turned out to be nothing but a creative fake.

GTA fans have been looking forward to the next part of the GTA series for years, have had enough of San Andreas and long for a change of scenery.

Although Rockstar revealed that work on the next game is “in full swing,” fans have yet to receive official gameplay, visuals, or even a logo.

On May 13, fans thought they had cause for excitement when a leaked image suggested a GTA 6 announcement was imminent – but like so many others, it ended up being fake (although it was quite the prank).

Fake GTA 6 “leaks” are getting wilder and wilder

Amusingly, the reason some fans suspected a reveal might be coming was because of a “leaked” image that claimed to be from a Rockstar Games social media management service.

The leaked photo, taken with a cell phone, showed an alleged Rockstar Sprinklr account with a “GTA VI” attachment scheduled for 3pm BST. However, the time came and went without notice.

Instead, Rockstar announced that a special Max Payne 3 soundtrack would be released later this year, daunting the hopes of fans whose misplaced hype had led to GTA 6 trending on Twitter.

“Here’s the awaited GTA 6 announcement, so hyped!” One user taunted after the Max Payne 3 reveal.

“Until I see an official trailer for #GTA6 BY ROCKSTAR. I won’t believe anything I hear or read,” wrote another player who was fed up. “It’s been 9 years since the news was published.”

That didn’t stop the copium flowing though, as some even read into the Max Payne 3 soundtrack that it’s sort of a GTA 6 aesthetic.

One fan even suggested that by linking to a Vice news story, the video game company was referencing Vice City — the Florida-based location where many believe the next game will be held.

In the end, the day for GTA fans was no different than any other, but considering how long users will be faking leaks, it’s clear that the anticipation for GTA 6 has reached insane new heights.
