Google’s Top Search 2021: This year’s trending searches have been announced

NEW YORK – Over the past year, Americans have turned to Google for updates on the Gabby Petito case, news about rapper DMX’s death, and highlights from the NBA.

That’s according to Summary of Google’s annual search trends for the year.

Last year, “coronavirus” was predicted to have topped the global trending search list and dominated most of the US listings. This year, the most popular searches globally were more focused on sport: “Australia vs India”, “India vs UK”, “IPL”, “NBA” and “Euro 2021” ranked as Top 5 searches.

In the United States, news and politics get more attention: “NBA,” “DMX,” “Gabby Petito,” “Kyle Rittenhouse” and “Brian Laundrie” are the five most searched terms in the country.
Americans’ minds are also on money: Mega Millions, AMC stock and stimulus checks ranked sixth, seventh, and eighth in overall search, respectively. Googlers wanted to know “how to qualify for stimulus checks” and searches for “dogecoin” spiked as amateur investors worked to send the cryptocurrency “to the moon.”
