GoFundMe earns $9,000,000 from Freedom Convoy; There are plans to redistribute the Assets to ‘Approved’ charities like BLM

The GoFundMe website is taking sides against the Liberal Delegation of Canada in a plan to no longer share much of what has been donated with coast-to-coast protest participants.

GoFundMe tried to go even further by taking sponsorship money and disseminate it to selected GoFundMe recipients, which may include things like Black Lives Matter or Planned Parenthood fervor.

In the end, GoFundMe went against it and decided to refund people’s donations only.

The Freedom Convoy landed in Ottawa last weekend after crossing into Canada. The protest was designed to draw attention to the devastating impact of vaccine duties imposed by the Canadian government on unvaccinated truckers.

The explosive protest exceeded all expectations, as did the financial support resulting in approximately $10 million being raised to support truckers and their supporters through GoFundMe.

But GoFundMe changed its tune on Friday, releasing a post on Medium that said it was moving away from the convoy.

“GoFundMe supports peaceful protests and we believe that was the intention of the Freedom Convoy 2022 fundraising when it was first established. We now have evidence from law enforcement that formerly peaceful protest has turned into an occupation, with police reports of violence and other illegal activity,” GoFundMe posted. .

Is this a reason not to trust GoFundMe?

“After reviewing the relevant facts and numerous discussions with city officials and local law enforcement, this fundraiser currently violates our Terms of Service (Terms 8, bans encouraging violence and harassment) and has been removed from the platform,” the website said in the post.

The post said that, beyond the initial $1 million given to the convoy organizers, “no more funds will be distributed directly to the Freedom Convoy organizers – we will be working with organizers to send all remaining funds to trusted charities and is established by the Freedom Convoy 2022 organization and verified by GoFundMe. ”

A backlash ensued.

Immediately followed by a partial retreat. While Go Fund Me remains adamant in not supporting freedom-loving truckers, Go Fund Me will also no longer direct donations to its hand-selected groups.

GoFundMe, in a statement Saturday, said that “due to feedback from donors, we are simplifying the process. We will automatically refund all donations directly – donors don’t need to submit a claim. You can see your refund within 7-10 business days”.

Although the original plans called for the protest dissolution after last weekend, Toronto Globe and Mail said organizers wanted to use the money to prevent protesters from continuing to force in Ottawa to push for an end to vaccination missions.

Although the number of protesters on the streets and in impromptu plantations has dwindled as this week continues, more protesters are expected in the city this weekend.

Earlier in the week, GoFund Me was pressured by at least one Canadian lawmaker to withdraw the convoy’s funds.

“This morning, I asked the city manager and the city attorney to immediately initiate court proceedings against the millions of dollars frozen by @GoFundMe so that Ottawa taxpayers do not must hold their pockets for these protests,” Ottawa City Councilor Mathieu Fleury tweeted Monday, in a tweet that was later deleted, according to Fox News.
