The incident began when Gutfeld began attacking pro-choice advocates, saying women who support abortion were “more concerned about what they would lose than what they would gain,” claiming that they recognized that her life without children is “nothing” after birth.
“A pro-choice mom can look at her adorable two-year-old and think, ‘My life would be nothing without her’ in 2022. [But] In 2017, when she was young and single, with no children, she could only imagine the loss of her freedom. Right? So that’s the problem,” he said.
The Fox News anchor left out the fact that many abortions are requested by women who already have children and do not want someone else to ensure they can adequately care for the child or children they already have.
Gutfeld told Rivera that the news was something “to celebrate, cherish and shout out” because he believes American women should embrace motherhood.
Rivera fired back, arguing that motherhood should be voluntary.
“This is nonsense. This is nonsense. Rivera said, referring to dangerous self-abortion practices that women had previously resorted to Deer vs Wade.
Gutfeld ridiculed Rivera’s empathetic plea for women forced to seek backyard abortions before the verdict, which only further enraged the correspondent.
“You’re an arrogant…you insulting punk,” he said.
At the beginning of the segment, Rivera argued in favor of women with abortion rights.
“What am I going to tell my daughters now that they have no control over their bodies? That they can’t make those decisions themselves?” he asked. “That an old man scratching his belly in another state will do it [make that choice for you]?”
Fox News viewers attacked Rivera on social media after the debate, but he was praised by Liberals for standing up for his beliefs and women’s rights.
